Company Profile

Peakviewing Productions was created in 1991 as the production and marketing base for brother/sister team: Elizabeth and Paul Matthews. The Company now has a number of projects in development, production and, through its recently launched international sales division, in distribution.

The Company's first production was THE CHRISTMAS STALLION, starring DANIEL J TRAVANTI. Filmed in 1992, it was shot simultaneously in English and Welsh as a relatively unique experiment in dual-language coproduction. In the Welsh version, EIRA CYNTA'R GAEAF, Daniel Travanti was recorded speaking phonetic Welsh and later dubbed in what has become a model for subsequent Anglo-Welsh productions.

In the following year, the Company ambitiously began production of both a four hour miniseries (GUNS OF HONOR) in South Africa in coproduction with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Trimark Pictures Inc and Saban Entertainment Inc and A CHRISTMAS REUNION, shot in England again in English and Welsh. GUNS OF HONOR was specifically written to run as a miniseries for television and as two stand alone films for video release. The films star MARTIN SHEEN, JURGEN PROCHNOW and CORBIN BERNSEN and are based upon the western novels by JT Edson from scripts written by Paul Matthews. The two films are directed by Peter Edwards and David Lister.

THE CHRISTMAS REUNION was the Company's second production for S4C, made in coproduction with Y Wennol Cyf and directed by David Hemmings. The Welsh language script was adapted by Paul Matthews for a broader international audience and two very distinct films result. Indeed, JAMES COBURN, who plays Santa Claus in the English language version, does not appear at all in the Welsh version (TAN AR Y COMIN). EDWARD WOODWARD, who speaks no Welsh, was coached in the language and appears in both versions, undubbed. A CHRISTMAS REUNION was nominated by Welsh BAFTA for best drama and best actress awards.

In 1995, the Company began the first in a series of horror films, GRIM. Written by Paul Matthews, the film marked Paul's directorial debut. It stars Emmanuel Xuereb and Tres Handley and was shot wholly in the UK, doubling for Virginia. DEADLY INSTINCTS followed in 1996 starring Todd Jensen, Samantha Janus and Oliver Tobias.

Also in 1995, the Company began THE PROPOSITION. Written by Paul Matthews, the film was directed by Strathford Hamilton. The film was budgeted at $5,000,000 and was again shot in English and Welsh. Y FARGEN is the Welsh language title. The Welsh version is intended as a television film for S4C and, in a unique move that called for the double casting of the two leads, stars NICOLA BEDDOE and ANEIRIN HUGHES. The English language version, intended for theatrical release, stars THERESA RUSSELL and PATRICK BERGIN.

In March 1996, the Company launched its own distribution division, calling it PEAKVIEWING TRANSATLANTIC, and attended the American Film Market with a number of movies available for distribution domestically and internationally, including its recent horror venture, GRIM, THE PROPOSITION and REVELATION, a sci-fi thriller, its first acquisition.

The international sales division is having a significant impact on the continuing development and production activities of the Company and the intention to raise the number of productions to three each year began to be realised in 1997, with the production of the first of a series of family movies, to be shot in South Africa: THE FAIRY KING OF AR (formerly known as BEINGS) starring Corbin Bernsen and Malcolm McDowell, followed by THE LAST LEPRECHAUN, starring Veronica Hamel, Jack Scalia and David Warner. The third film is THE LTTLE UNICORN starring Joe Penny, Emma Samms, David Warner, Christopher Atkins and George Hamilton. This commitment to family productions is continuing and is a major focus of the Company's activities.

To add value to the production budgets, the Company's latest films have been produced in South Africa and Peakviewing has established a small studio-like base for pre-production and post. The six thousand square feet building includes a two thousand feet sound stage with two complete edit suites equipped with non-linear edit machines and a third mobile suite, all of which are on-line to Beta SP quality. The Johannesburg site also incorporates office accommodation as well as make up, wardrobe and art department facilities and an animatronics division, six people strong.

Peakviewing intends to use the Johannesburg site primarily for in-house pre- and post-production work in conjunction with the various semi-permanent sets built in and around Johannesburg, including a full European-style village and a life-size replica of Stonehenge. For its latest venture, the Company is building three complete Western towns. Although a British company, we have been described in the press as South Africa's own "Dreamworks".

Johannesburg is also home to Peakviewing's first venture into series production. FILLIGOGGIN is to a fifty-two part puppet series for pre-school children and represents the first series in a commitment to eleven distinct series (286 episodes) of pre-school educational entertainment all of which will form the basis of an interactive CD-Rom and Website for young children.
